After being unceremoniously de-caped from his role as Superman, Cavill has rebounded with a single leap into Amazon’s waiting arms. The once and sadly not future Witcher will star in and produce a series based on Warhammer 40,000, the most popular miniature wargame in the world
“For 30 years I have dreamt of seeing a Warhammer universe in live action. Now, after 22 years of experience in this industry, I finally feel that I have the skill set and experience to guide a Warhammer Cinematic Universe into life,” Cavill wrote in a post on Instagram.

He added, “Having a home like Amazon will give us the freedom to be true to the massive scope of Warhammer. To all of you Warhammer fans out there, I promise to respect this IP that we love. I promise to bring you something familiar. And I endeavor to bring you something fantastic that is, as of yet, unseen.”
Cavill ended his statement by noting the first steps, which are “to find our Filmmaker/Creator/Writer. Watch this space, my friends.”
Amazon also issued a press release Friday stating that it had secured rights to Warhammer and that Cavil will star in and executive produce the franchise across all Amazon Studios productions, including series, films, and potentially more.
Cavill famously spent his pandemic lockdown in a blue tank top, building computers, and painting his Warhammer miniatures. The self-described “#ProperGeek” referred to the game as one of his “almost life-long hobbies,” so he’s probably flying high without the aid of wires or CGI.
In the mode of Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer 40,000 is an epic mini wargame set in the 42nd century, where humans battle it out against hostile aliens and supernatural monsters. The first edition of the game debuted in 1987, when the man who would be Clark Kent (at least for a little bit) was about four years old.
