Renfrew County, ON (March 24, 2023) – The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society’s SPCA Mobile Animal Wellness Services unit is kicking off its season of community stops with a spay/neuter clinic for cats taking place in Renfrew County from March 24-26.
The three-day spay/neuter clinic for cats was made possible thanks to funding by Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ Community Crowdfunding Campaign. Held at the Shady Nook Recreation Centre by appointment only, the goal of the event is to reduce animal overpopulation by making spay/neuter services more accessible to underserved communities.
For 150 years the Ontario SPCA has been changing the lives of animals and depends on the generosity of donors to continue to give animals the second chance they deserve. Last year, the SPCA Mobile Animal Wellness Services unit made 10 community stops across Ontario, performing over 550 surgeries and preventing more than an estimated 22,000 potentially unplanned offspring.
“We are excited to be back out on the road with the mobile unit to reach animals who otherwise might not have been spayed or neutered,” says Heather Jobe, Community Outreach Coordinator, Ontario SPCA and Humane Society. “As a registered charity that does not receive annual government funding, the Ontario SPCA would not be able to do this life-changing work without generous donors who step up to help us deliver essential services to communities.”
Thanks to a Pet Valu “Companions for Change™” grant of $175,000, the Ontario SPCA launched its SPCA Mobile Animal Wellness Services Unit in 2019, delivering wellness examinations and spay/neuter services to underserved communities. With the help of generous donations from devoted pet lovers across the country, since 2018, Pet Valu’s “Companions for Change™” grants have helped animal rescues and charities across Canada achieve larger capital projects. In addition to “Companions for Change™” grants, each year Pet Valu hosts June Pet Appreciation Month and October “Companions for Change™” events, which sees all stores raising funds, collecting product donations and hosting National Adoption Weekends to support hundreds of local community rescues.
